The FlexTraining Total E-Learning Solution, has formally adopted the SCORM standard as an option for its popular e-learning solution. This strategic advancement will increase the adoption of FlexTraining by government institutions, municipalities, and other large national and international customers.
SCORM Engines and SCORM formatted content are primarily broken into two structural schemes: SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. NTS has chosen SCORM 1.2 because of its relative simplicity and the wide variety of training content available in this format.
The new SCORM module will be available as an optional "add-on" to the established, full-featured FlexTraining Learning Management System. This will allow non-SCORM customers to retain their economical training solution without having to help support the cost of this new functionality. At the same time, new FlexTraining customers will have the ability to purchase the new SCORM module if needed, as will existing customers who have maintained their annual software maintenance agreements.
What SCORM Does
The Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) defines a specific way of constructing online training content so that it can be used with other
"SCORM conformant" systems, sometimes with modification. Basically, SCORM helps a Learning Management System deliver and manage learning from external third-party sources.
SCORM is widely adopted by many large organizations, especially outside the US. As one example, the US Department of Defense has specified that all of its learning content must be delivered via SCORM, and that any Learning Management Systems it purchases should be "SCORM compliant" in some capacity.
